Heat and winds mark Chile’s weekend weather
VU
The heatwave raises the risk of crop stress, faster ripening, and dehydration in orchards and fields.
Chile faced unusually high temperatures and moderate winds over the weekend of 21–22 November, with maximums of 30–32°C from Coquimbo to Ñuble and widespread winds of 25–40 km/h, including gusts up to 50 km/h in several central and southern regions, according to the country’s Meteorological Service.
The combination of high temperatures and moderate winds observed over the weekend increases the risk of crop stress, accelerated ripening, and dehydration in orchards and fields. Growers — especially those in central and southern regions — may need to adjust irrigation schedules, reinforce sunburn protection, and monitor wind-related damage to ensure quality and minimise post-harvest losses in the coming days.
