Significant increase in areas dedicated to avocado in Peru. By 2018 the country had planted 32,000 hectares of avocados and planned 40,000 hectares by 2021, an increase of 25% in 5 years.
ADEX (Asociación de Exportadores) explained that this significant increase in avocado acreage is due to the continued growth of exports and the opening of new markets, mainly in Asia. The entry of the Peruvian avocado in Thailand after 8 years of negotiations will give new impetus to the sector. Just like the opening of other countries like South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and the Philippines.
According to ADEX data, between January and April 2019, avocado exports increased by 9% in value compared to the same period of 2018.
