The artichoke harvesting season in the Vega Baja del Segura has started with positive prospects, a local media reports. This year, the cultivated area has increased by 15% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 2,300 hectares. This increase represents a growth of over 50% in the last decade.
The inaugural event took place in Formentera del Segura, where chef Cristina Figueira, recognized with a Michelin Star and a Sol Repsol, made the symbolic cutting of the first artichoke of the season. During the event, the importance of this crop for the local economy was highlighted and tribute was paid to the efforts of the farming families who make it possible.
With an estimated production of more than 27,000 tons, the artichoke is consolidated as an emblematic product of the region, reflecting the region's commitment to sustainable and quality agriculture.
