The healthy eating habits of young children are being hailed as one of the reasons for the continued growth of organic foods.
Major organic industry members say up to a third of their organic products are eaten by children under the age of eight.
Shane Heaton, from the Biological Farmers of Australia, says the young organic market is growing because parents are more concerned with their children eating healthily.
"One of the key life events that brings people into buying organic food is having children, so they often start buying organics with things like baby food and fruit and veg, to make food for their kids," he says.
"They are more susceptible to a toxic burden and parents intuitively understand this and want the best for their kids."
