The Sea-Intelligence site indicates that global demand was up 5.5% in the first half of 2021 according to CTS (Container Trade Statistics). But the efficiency of port calls has decreased: the average time spent in port by container ships during the first half of 2021 was 11% higher than the average time spent in port in 2018-19.
This average time may vary depending on the country, so for the United States the average time spent in port has increased by + 20%. In Europe, this average time has increased more strongly in Germany and France, while for the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Belgium the progression is more in line with the world average.
In Asia, the average time spent in port increased by + 12% in China and + 20% in Singapore during the first half of 2021 compared to 2018-19.
