China is expected to produce 94 million tonnes of fresh potatoes and 420,000 tonnes of frozen French fries.
For the 2021/22 marketing year and according to the latest estimates, Chinese production of fresh potatoes is expected to reach 94 million tonnes. That is a variation of -5% compared to the 2020/21 marketing year
According to a recent USDA Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report, for MY 2021/22 Chinese production of fresh potatoes is expected to reach 94 million tonnes. This represents a variation of -5% compared to the 2020/21 marketing year. This decrease is mainly attributed to the decrease in area.
The report also indicates that for this same marketing year 2021/22, Chinese production of frozen fries should vary by + 20% to reach 420,000 tonnes. During the first 10 months of the 2020/21 campaign, Chinese exports of frozen fries varied by + 75%, reaching almost 40,000 tonnes. This performance is attributed to strong demand from neighboring countries where Chinese frozen fries are competitive with American and European frozen fries.
With regard to Chinese imports, disruptions in international logistics have led to a drop in imported volumes. But if the situation improves in the coming months, during the 2021/22 campaign, China should import 84,000 tonnes of frozen French fries, ie + 5% compared to the previous campaign.
