GLOBALG.A.P.’s World Consultation Tour for Standard Revision Starts
GLOBALG.A.P. seeks to include as many stakeholders as possible in the revision process of development phase of IFA standard version 6 that aims to offer a flexible and simplified certification experience.
The World Consultation Tour is a series of worldwide online meetings that will begin at the end of May. Each meeting will take 90 minutes video conferences in a form of online round table discussion moderated by experts.
The video conferences are free of charge and divided into different target groups and languages. The consultation rounds will cover all areas of the standard to find out which ones can be changed, simplified or improved for v6. The consultation period will cover main topics, starting with food safety on the farm. Other topics are workers’ health and safety, environmental sustainability and animal welfare, all drawing on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Issues focusing on current and specific new control points and compliance criteria will also be discussed. Everyone can express their opinion, help shape the standard and share their experience.
GLOBALG.A.P. CEO Kristian Moeller is optimistic about the opportunity that this feedback channel creates:
“Those who really feel that they have actively participated in the new standard will ultimately identify with it and then implement it with the right attitude. Intensive discussions with all relevant stakeholders make it clear that the topic of sustainability is gaining importance because you have to think about the industry in the long term. How do we want to live and produce in the future? We want to integrate this idea into the consultation process and produce an even better standard.”
GLOBALG.A.P. is responding to the COVID-19 crisis by extending online consultation phase and – where possible – on-site for a number of months. The result will be a well-consulted standard that assures the continued supply of safe and sustainable agricultural products.
