Experts believe the price of rice will increase by more than 30% after the devastating floods in Thailand - the leading world exporter of rice.
The floods that have submerged a third of Thailand, disrupting agriculture, trade and exports have driven up food prices in the region.
The Federation of Vegetable Sellers Association of Malaysia announced that certain products, such as peppers or winter melon have doubled in price. The federation believes that prices will rise again and begin to decline after the Chinese New Year.
Having suspended its exports, Thailand will buy vegetables from Malaysia in the coming weeks at continuing high prices.
