Walnuts have been exported for the first time from Australia.
The nuts were grown on the east coast of Tasmania, and are currently being shipped to Germany.
Webster Fresh managing director Nigel Carey says there's strong demand for in-shell walnuts in Germany.
"We have always seen it as our first point of entry into export," he says.
"This has been our first harvest of some quite large commercial volumes this year - four times the volume we've harvested in previous years."
"It's presented the opportunity for us to put a small export program together this year.
"Particularly, as we begin bringing production on from New South Wales orchards as well, we'll start to have some large commercial volumes and we'll need a large export footprint."
