Decline in onion production in Europe, except in Spain

The EU countries will register a decline in production of onions, except Spain.
The EU production will reach 5.2 million tons of onions for 2013, a decrease of 6% compared to the previous year. Concerned, the cold and wet spring that has affected all European countries and led to a decline in yields.
The only exception: Spain whose production will total 1.2 million tons (+1% compared to 2012). This volume allows it to become the first country of onion producer in Europe, ahead of Netherlands that will produce 1.04 million tons (-11% compared to 2012).
