Softer Fuji apples

A Chilean program of researches aims to obtain softer Fuji apples.
Since 2008, Chilean scientists work to obtain softer Fuji apples by increasing the percentage of fructose in fruits. The project, which represents 300 millions $ of investment, is going to end its 1st phase of research. Then, the plantation will begin.
At the same time, researches also concern the modification of the apple color. This 2nd project began in November 2011, has a $340 million cost and will last three years.
The objective is 2,5 hectares in 2013 and to reach 500 hectares in 2022. The first profits of the production are expected for 2016.
