Oranges, lemons and clementines on Russian market in the middle of December 2007

The break in arrivals from South African side was positive for the market which passed the week 50 without disturbance. Prices stabilized in 0,95 – 1,03 US$/kg range. The Argentine fruits from last arrivals do not deserve to be noted due to very poor quality. Majority of South African fruits in the end of the season were packed by Dole. Turkey starts to enter the market but mostly in the south of Russia.
By means of increased arrivals from Turkey the prices in week 50 went slightly down again - to 2,45 US$/kg level. Spanish lemons were available in Moscow only. The first arrivals from Egypt came into the market with different quality depending upon a producer. Still the demand for lemons was higher than the offer.
Moroccan clementines have jumped up and definitely have been “the product of the week” – 0,41 US$/kg in week! It was the matter of bad weather in Morocco and traditionally increasing demand in this time of the year. Next week the arrivals of Spanish clementines are expected. A few Turkish Satsumas were sold in the south and in Moscow on 1,43 US$/kg. The importers were careful as quality of mandarins was strongly affected before by delays with discharge.
