Good first quarter after a record year in 2015

Excellent results for the Port of Antwerp during the first three months of 2016. The month of March 2016 was the best month ever recorded in the port in terms of cargo volumes handled. 

The port of Antwerp handled 53,265,552 tonnes of freight during the first quarter of 2016, +3.9% compared to the same period in 2015.

Container tonnes rose by 3.2% during the first quarter, ending at 29,143,365 tonnes. This corresponds to a volume of 2,459,847 TEU, and increase of 4.6% compared to 2015.

During this quarter the port received a total of 3 535 ships, an increase of 3.7%. The Port Authority is very pleased with these excellent growth figures, but guard of unbridled optimism, given the continued volatility and market turbulence.
