In Colombia, the Association of Banana Growers of Magdalena and La Guajira (Asbama) announced the delivery of $975 million in supplies, equipment and training to 399 producers, to improve the yield and productivity of banana and plantain farms on the north coast of the country.
The resources were provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In total, 119 small and medium-sized producers in the export market and 280 producers in the domestic market will benefit.
José Francisco Zúñiga, executive president of Asbama, assured that they will deliver a series of elements in the municipalities of Dibulla, Santa Marta, Riohacha, and in the Banana Zone.
The input kits contain bio-inputs, soil and foliar fertilizer, elements such as field bags, quaternary ammonium, pita (for the winter season), concentration measurement test and disposable overalls.
The equipment will be provided with tool kits with a shovel, a drag shovel, a hoe, a pick, a file, a machete, manual fumigation pumps and 500-liter water tanks.
The beneficiary banana growers will have access to trainings to improve the performance of their farms. One is dedicated to managing finances to optimize resources in plots and crops; another is related to the topic of biosafety; and the last one is about bio-inputs.
As soon as the training is over, equipment and supplies will be delivered to all farms that have registered.
