Ideal for large scale cherry production

The program aims to increase cherry production in the Andes and Peru - an ideal place for cherries.

Peru may soon be a major producer of cherries, according to Peru Berries, which aims to extend the cultivation of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and cherries.

Specialists from Natur Crex fruit growers in Spain, noted that the valleys of Cajamarca and Junín provide ideal conditions for the large-scale production of cherries.

Consultants for the Berries Sierra Exportadora Peru programme, they emphasized the benefits of cherry production. Production from November to January for the markets

of the northern hemisphere that have no production during this period could mean worldwide success, particulary if production could be extended until March.

Studies and analysis are in progress to create a work plan to define the varieties selected for the first plants to be imported from Spain, Canada and Chile. The program aims to work with Peru Berries and small fruit culture in the Andes. These fruits now have one of the largest sales volume in the global market with strong demand and high prices.
