Spain predicts 1.6 million tons of tomatoes

The Working Group on tomato has met in Brussels.

The working group of producers composed of the 3 countries (Spain, Italy, France) took stock of the season and analysed the perspectives of the new season which begins.

In Spain, regarding the tomato season 2012/2013, the volumes remained similar to the previous season. For the new season, a production of about 1.6 million tons of tomatoes is expected during the period of October to May, on an area of ??16 000 hectares.

In France, the volumes are similar to previous years, a slight increase is expected for 2013/2014. In Italy, the production was 15% lower than the previous season.
