Equal challenges for the fruit sector of Chile and Brazil

The Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX) and the Association of Fruit Producers and Exporters of Brazil (ABRAFRUTAS) recently held a meeting in Santiago (Chile) in order to analyze the current situation of the fruit industry in Chile and Brazil, and find common solutions for development.
ASOEX and ABRAFRUTAS are important players in the Southern Hemisphere and the world in the field of production and export of fresh fruits. At the meeting they addressed the logistical difficulties that exporting countries are facing, with the aim of developing ideas that allow them to solve these problems jointly, according to Ronald Bown, President of ASOEX.
After the pandemic, the logistics issue has become a challenge for fruit exporters around the world. Costs have grown dramatically, and the issue of shortage of availability of containers and shipping lines has rebounded, according to Jorge de Souza, Project Director of ABRAFRUTAS. He pointed out that both unions have common interests and must collaborate to face challenges that are also common.
It should be noted that Brazil is the third world producer of fresh fruit, with about 44 million tons per year, although its exports constitute 2.5% of total fruit production.
