According to a New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture report, the amount of local apples destined for export is steadily increasing.
In 2003, exports increased to 17.9 million cartons, despite lower overall production due to frost, hail and cooler than normal temperatures.
For the new season, exports are expected to grow by around 7 per cent to over 19 million cartons.
