Sharp rise in Spanish olive oil production

According to the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, virgin olive oil production in the country for the 2003/04 season could be as high as 1.415 million tonnes. This compares to 860,000 tonnes for the previous season. About 650,000 tonnes are expected to be exported, mainly to EU countries, while 580,000 tonnes will be consumed locally.
