California fig industry hit by rain damage

Figs from California are reported of a lower quality this year to due rain damage sustained in August. Consequently, while the dried fig crop will still reach about 13 million kilos, much more of the crop will go to the ingredients market rather than to retail, meaning lower returns for growers.
