We already knew that the tomato has many health benefits: anti-cholesterol, anti-inflammatory and anti-stroke , but Asian scientists have revealed a new virtue.
The tomato is able to fight against depression by Japanese and Chinese researchers. This is thanks to lycopene, the anti natural antioxidant that gives a red color.
The researchers conducted a lengthy investigation into
the eating habits of a thousand elderly people in Japan. They concluded that the consumption 2-6 times a week of tomatoes can reduce the symptoms of depression by 46%. Consumption of any other vegetable reaches the same score.
The study will be published in the January 2013 issue of the "Journal of Affective Disorders."
