Malatya is the main producing region of dry apricots, a traditional export product from Turkey, whose quality is highly valued abroad.
The government is supporting export development with a low interest rate, low cost air transportation, and recently a controlled geographical name. The dried apricot exported from this region will bear the name: "Malatya's apricot".
With this in mind, the creation of licensed deposits and an apricot-specific exchange should make it possible to obtain a flawless marketing chain that will benefit all consumers in the sector and at the end of the chain.
As in the case of the hazelnut sector, a fund could also be set up for apricots in order to increase their market share.
Dry apricots are currently exported to around 111 countries.
