2022 was a good year for apple production in Germany

Destatis, the Federal Statistical Office, announces that approximately 1,070,978 tonnes of apples were harvested in 2022. That is +6.6% compared to the 1,004,624 tonnes harvested in 2021, while the area dedicated to apples recorded a decrease of about 520 hectares (-1.5%).

 

After the years 2014 and 2018 which each recorded more than 1.1 million tons, the 2022 production is ranked 3rd among the highest apple yields of the last 10 years.

 

The main reasons for this strong production in 2022 were the good development of the fruits in the spring as well as the low incidence of diseases and pests resulting from the good weather conditions.
