In Australia exports of fresh vegetables continue to grow. For 2019, exports increased by 6.6% in value and 5.5% in volume.
According to AUSVEG vegetable exports in 2019 reached AUD 299 million or + 6.6% compared to the previous year, and 230,000 tonnes or + 5.4% in volume.
Carrots remained the main export product with 34% of the total volume exported. Onions experienced the strongest growth in exported products with AUD 40 million or + 67%. Among other fresh products exported are potatoes, celery, broccoli and cauliflower.
The main markets for Australian fresh vegetables remained stable, with in particular Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia which replaced Hong Kong in 5th position.
"The industry is on track to meet the ambitious target of AUD 315 million in fresh vegetable exports by 2020," said Michael Coote, Ausveg national manager - export development.
