The issue, first raised last year, has since gained support from other sectors, including strawberry growers, as pesticide options continue to shrink across Europe.

Representatives from the garlic sectors of Spain, France, and Italy will meet in Drôme, France, on April 1–2 to review the 2024 season, discuss harvest projections for 2025, and address ongoing concerns about phytosanitary regulations in the EU.

The group will include growers, exporters, and government officials, with a key focus on pushing for joint EU authorizations of crop protection products. Under the current system, approvals must be granted separately by each member state, which producers say slows access to essential treatments.
