South Korea orders recall of Vietnamese bananas after safety test failure

Consumers are advised to stop consumption and return the product to the store.
Lotte Mart has begun recalling Vietnamese bananas from its stores in South Korea after authorities found pesticide residues above permitted levels.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety confirmed that traces of clothianidin and thiamethoxam exceeded safety limits in a batch of bananas imported and distributed by Lotte Shopping’s Lotte Mart division. The shipment involved 51,480 kg of fruit produced in 2025.
The ministry has ordered an immediate halt to sales and is advising consumers who purchased the bananas to stop eating them and return them to the store. Both pesticides are commonly used in agriculture but must remain within regulated residue thresholds to be considered safe.
Officials said monitoring and additional inspections will continue to prevent further violations in imported produce.
