After years of strong growth, sales of organic products in France are slowing down sharply
According to IRI, which specializes in the analysis of consumption data, the turnover of organic products will decrease for the second consecutive year. At the end of October 2022, the variation reached -5% compared to the same period 1 year earlier.
Some professionals in the sector estimate that this decline could reach 7 to 10% over the whole of 2022 and even 10 to 12% for specialized store chains.
The main reason for this decline in sales is the inflation observed on food products (+12% over 1 year)
which push consumers to make trade-offs in their spending and to turn to less expensive products.
In France, sales of organic products had tripled, rising from 4 to 12 billion EUR over the last decade. But, after the +12% increase recorded in 2020 and following the Covid confinement periods, sales began to slow down and the year 2021 ended with -1.3% for sales of organic products.
