Organic lime grower group obtains SPRING certification
VU | OTC Organics B.V.
OTC Organics, the organic company which focuses on growing and distribution of sustainable organic fruit and vegetables, proudly announces that its organic limes project in Colombia is officially SPRING certified. The organic grower group Excoagro/Aspromayo, which includes 61 farmers, is one of the first organic limes grower groups in the world who is now certified with GLOBALG.A.P. SPRING!
The Sustainable Program for Irrigation and Groundwater Use, or SPRING, is a farm-level add-on destined to let producers, traders and retailers prove their commitment to sustainable water management.
As was said by Alexander Restrepo, Product Development Manager at OTC Organics, the company, along with strategic partners from all over the world, worked hard to manage water risks and encourage sustainable practices.
Water is almost a limited source now, and freshwater makes up only around 3% of all water on the planet. Even though freshwater is considered a renewable resource, in some regions the freshwater consumption exceeds the ability of natural processes to replenish supplies. This means people need to remember that water supply is not forever granted, and be careful with what they have.
Restrepo highlighted that their Colombian organic lime producers and their Product Development Team have done an exceptional job to achieve the SPRING add-on certificate of conformity.
The manager added that without unpolluted and sufficient water agriculture is non-viable. People are responsible to reasonably use this precious resource, to protect it and to not contaminate it.
Excoagro/Aspromayo organic limes are available 12 months a year at OTC Organics. Buying these fruits from OTC Organics or their partner retailers and wholesalers in Europe contributes to a sustainable organic lime production.
