According to the 'Banana Market Review Preliminary results 2022' published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the world ranking by volume of banana exports is now:
1st Ecuador with 6.216 million tons,
2nd Guatemala with 2.467 million tons,
3rd the Philippines with 2.235 million tons,
4th Colombia with 2.125 million tons,
5th Costa Rica with 2.122 million tons.
In the Philippines, according to the report, banana production has declined in 2022 due to efforts to control the spread of the Fusarium TR4 parasite but also due to high input and fertilizer costs which have resulted in lower volumes produced by smallholders. banana growers.
In 2021 the Philippines had exported 2.383 million tons and previously 3.125 million tons in 2018 and 2.725 million tons in 2017.
