According to a ministerial report, in 2019 Argentina exported almost 330,000 tonnes of pears, representing an income of 270 million USD. This volume makes Argentina the 2nd world exporter behind China.
In 2019, pear exports totaled almost 330,000 tonnes and represented foreign exchange income of 270 million USD. This result shows a slight decrease compared to 2018 but a sharp decline compared to the 460,000 tonnes exported more than 6 years ago. At that date, Argentina was the world No. 1 in pear exports, even exceeding China (430,000 tonnes).
This decrease in production is largely due to the adverse weather conditions. This year, Argentinian professionals are confident, production will be higher than 2018 and 2019.
The main destinations for Argentine pears are Brazil (32%), Russia (27%), and Europe (14%). Among the pear varieties produced, the Williams variety led the way with 41%, followed by the Packham variety with 29% and the D'Anjou variety with 14%.
