European production: stability for apples and increase for pears

Prognosfruit is the annual harvest estimation conference. Due to the health crisis, this year's conference was a virtual event where WAPA (World Apple and Pear Association) gave the estimate of the European apple and pear harvest in 2020.
The 2020 apple production in the EU, for the 21 producing countries that contributed to this report, is estimated at 10,711,000 tonnes. That is, a volume indicating a decrease of 1% compared to last year and a decrease of 4% compared to the 3-year average.
The 2020 pear production in the EU, for the 19 producer countries that contributed to this report, is estimated at 2 199 000 tonnes
. This is a volume indicating an increase of 12% compared to last year and an increase of 1% compared to the 3-year average.
Originally planned in Belgrade (Serbia) Prognosfruit 2020 has been rescheduled as a virtual conference. On August 6, the event brought together more than 150 international representatives of the apple and pear sector.
