The recovery in demand from professionals (hotels, restaurants) as well as from households has led to an increase in the value of potato exports from the United States.
According to Potatoes USA, potato exports for the period from July to September 2022 recorded a decline in volume but an increase in value, which reflects inflation and price increases worldwide.
.Fresh potatoes: variations of -15% in volume but +7% in value compared to the period from July to September 2021. Exports increased to certain major markets, including Mexico (+7%) where shipments can now go beyond the 26 kilometer border region. Exports also increased by +50% to Central America and by +180% to South Korea.
.Frozen potatoes: variations of -4% in volume but +13% in value compared to the period from July to September 2021. With regard to a few markets in particular, shipments of frozen products fell to China (-38%), Myanmar (-59%) and Taiwan (-7%). While volume was down overall, there were some increases in frozen food shipments to certain markets, including Saudi Arabia (+24%) and the United Arab Emirates (+134%).
.Dehydrated potatoes: variations of +1.4% in volume and +8% in value compared to the period from July to September 2021. The main increases in shipments concern Malaysia with +124% and Thailand with + 6%. Several markets saw lower shipments, including Japan (-29%), South Korea (-50%) and Taiwan (-78%).
