LIVE from Fruit Logistica: Jan Oskam seeks to preserve its brand identity
This time at Fruit Logistica, Jan Oskam, a pear supplier from the Netherlands, presents the new Alessia variety.
“In the next 2 years, we plan to increase production areas for our novelty variety Alessia. The crop quality is very good, as well as of our Conference variety: quite similar to previous year in terms of volume and quality. We will have stock until middle-end of July.”, says Kees Oskam, General Director.
“The problem that our export faces today is the demand for locality of the fruit. Consumers want pears from their own countries. And, to be honest, we are sad that sellers, let’s say, in Poland or Spain, sell Dutch pears and mark them as if they were produced in their countries. Back in the days, we have been working with several Spanish supermarket chains, and now they don’t want to buy our fruit anymore. Due to this, we are targeting markets of Switzerland or Scandinavia, the markets that aren’t much involved into pear production and continue buying our fruit.”, shares the director.
