Russia: largest importer of apples and pears
Russia
Sunday 13 January 2008
Russia is the largest importer of apples and pears in the world, and imports are growing 20 - 30% per year. Rising consumer incomes throughout Russia are increasing demand for U.S. fresh fruit. The U.S. is the second largest supplier of apples and pears to the Russian Far East (RFE). U.S. fruit importers are diversifying their product lines with table grapes, cherries, and other fruit. Logistics issues in the Port of Greater St. Petersburg continue to impede the pace of U.S. fruit exports to the Russia.
