Russia is the Country to which sales of citrus fruits from the Spanish region of Valencia have increased more (by 1,097% last November). But also sales to Poland, whose value increased by 45.4% to over 17.5 million, and to the Countries of northern Europe such as Norway and Denmark have grown relevantly, by 42.5 and 42% respectively.
For this reason the Valencian government is negotiating with Russia the opening of a weekly line of fruit and vegetable shipments from Valencia to St. Petersburg, as the counsellor of Agriculture of the Regional government Maritina Hernández recently declared. The service will be fully operative probably next year.
Mrs. Hernández also highlighted that other Eastern European Countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic are becoming major destinations where the Generalitat is seeking to diversify its exports. In November 2007 for instance the sale of fruits on general to these Countries increased, especially in Czech Republic (134%), Russia (73%), Switzerland (87%) and Poland (82%).
Between the goals for this year of her department, Mrs. Hernandez highlighted the implementation of the Valencian Agency of agri-foodstuff Export, whose mission would be to promote the internationalization of the agri-foodstuff sector of the community of Valencia.
