In Switzerland, the rainy spring delayed the maturity of the strawberries but the harvests have started and the volumes are increasing. Fruit-Union Suisse expects a good harvest which should cover around 1/3 of the country's total consumption.
Fruit-Union Suisse is expecting a good harvest of around 7,000 tonnes. Swiss strawberries are now ripe and the quantities are increasing day by day. From the 2nd week of June the quantity harvested will reach 1000 tonnes each week for almost 3 weeks.
National production accounts for around 1/3 of the total volume of strawberries consumed in Switzerland. Almost 24,000 tonnes of strawberries are consumed each year in Switzerland and the consumption per person amounts to 2.2 kg.
Strawberries are grown on 515 hectares and the share of organic strawberries is 7.5%. Surfaces protected from weather hazards are constantly increasing, reducing the use of phytosanitary products and ensuring supply.
