Harvest of citrus in Sunraysia and Riverina
Australia
Thursday 06 September 2007
About 80% or more of Washington navels have been harvested and Late Lanes had commenced harvest in the latter part of July. Late Lane fruit has been colouring well, probably facilitated by the recent cold weather. Size has been very good which has contributed to more improved pack-outs than those of 2006. Although South Australia experienced more a severe frost than other districts, the majority of the damage occurred in isolated pockets and have not had any significant impact to the overall South Australian production. The frost experienced in Sunraysia was very isolated to high risk pockets and has not been of any economic significance.
Majority of Washington navels have been harvested with the last of GA fruit being harvested by early August. Late lanes harvest is starting in late July. The good fruit size this season has contributed to improved pack-outs from last season. The frosts experienced last month only caused damage to very isolated pockets. Some oleocellosis was seen during the cold weather experienced during the middle of July.
