Fruit imports in South Korea set new records in volume terms, reaching 863,660 tons in 2016, ie + 4% compared to 2015.
Customs said 863,660 tons of fruit were imported by South Korea last year, up by 4 percent from the previous year. Fruit imports have grown from less than 350 000 tons in 2000 to 840 000 tons in 2012 and 863 660 tons in 2016.
Among imported products, avocados posted the highest growth (+ 92%). Imports of orange rose by almost 40% and imports of kiwi, melon, pineapple and durian also rose sharply. Among the main suppliers of South Korea, the Philippines accounts for 44% of total imports and the United States 28%.
