Delay in banana delivery
New Zealand
Thursday 19 July 2001
The ship supplying Ecuadorian bananas to New Zealand broke down around 700 miles east of Auckland. According to the shipping company, it is unlikely that fruits are to deteriorate during a fortnight delay and supermarkets shouldn't increase prices. New Zelanders are among the world's biggest consumers of bananas with 120, 000 to 130, 000 boxes every fortnight.
