The UN has proclaimed 2021 the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables.
This United Nations (UN) proclamation emphasizes the importance of fruits and vegetables for our health.
The United Nations has proclaimed 2021 the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables. The main objective is to disseminate information on the health benefits of the consumption of fruits and vegetables, in order to prevent the diseases generated by overweight and obesity.
In addition to this, the initiative's other goals are to reduce waste in food systems; promote sustainable consumption and production; disseminate practices for better sustainability in storage, transport, processing and trade; integrate small farmers into the sustainable production and supply of fresh food; build the capacity of all countries, and in particular developing countries, to adopt innovative technologies and methods to tackle food loss and waste.
This year 2021, proclaimed the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, offers a unique opportunity to make lifestyle changes on a planetary scale and to highlight the importance of fruits and vegetables for nutrition and health.
