2017 production similar to last year

Peru expects the 2017 production to be similar to 2016.
According to estimates by APPAPA (Associación Nacional de Productores de Papa y sus Derivados del Perú), national production in 2017 will be comparable to last year with a volume of 40,000 tons.
The 2017 production of potatoes will be composed of 30% of colorful flesh varieties (native varieties), 40% yellow fleshed varieties and 30% white fleshed varieties. Most of the production is destined for the domestic market.
The potato is grown in 14 regions of Peru (Puno, Huánuco, Cusco, Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Junín, La Libertad, Apurimac, Ayacucho, Pasco, Ancash, Arequipa, Lima and Ica). The Peruvian farmer cultivates on average 1.5 hectares of potatoes with an average yield of 14 tons per hectare.
