First supplies of Spanish citrus fruits arrived to Peru
VU | Anecoop S. Coop.
On May 4, the first container of Spanish oranges arrived in Peru, sent by Anecoop and produced by Green Fruits, its partner cooperative based in Valencia. On May 12, the production was collected for transfer to the stores, after passing the relevant inspection.
The cargo of 22,000 kilos of oranges of the Navel Lane Late variety was stored at a temperature of 1 ° C throughout the journey. In this way, the fruit reached its destination in perfect condition.
The important thing is that this citrus container is the first delivery to Peru from Spain. Negotiations began about three years ago between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain (MAPA) and the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (SENASA) regarding the opening of the Peruvian market to oranges, mandarins, and persimmons from Spain.
After the visits of SENASA inspectors, at the end of 2020 the agreement for citrus fruits and persimmons was published and registrations were opened for entities to register to be authorized to export.
Green Fruits, the II degree cooperative created within Anecoop, a result of the union of the Cooperativa Citrícola de La Safor (Gandía), the S.A.T. Novacitrus, (Oliva, Valencia) and the Alicante Cooperativa Agricola de Pego, and the Vinícola de Llíria cooperative, as well as Anecoop itself.
Alejandro Monzón, the president of Anecoop, commented that the delivery of this container is a first step, which they hope many more will follow, to open European merchandise to third countries, overcoming the barriers that complicate reciprocity and equality in commercial relationships.
Joan Mir, the general director of Anecoop, and Miguel Abril, the commercial director, have coincided in expressing their satisfaction and optimism and that it is Anecoop and its partners who have initiated the new commercial route between Spain and Peru.
