In 2022, air freight demand fell except in the Latin America Region, which recorded +13.1% (Photo: iata.org).
IATA (International Air Transport Association) has released its data on global air cargo markets, which reveals that demand for the whole of 2022 has fallen compared to 2021.
According to IATA data, overall demand for the whole of 2022, measured in load tonne-kilometres (CTK/cargo tonne-kilometres) varied by -8.0% compared to 2021 and -1.6% compared to compared to 2019.
Capacity in 2022, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTK/cargo tonne-kilometres), was 3.0% higher than in 2021 but 8.2% lower than in 2019.
Asia-Pacific region: carriers show a variation in demand of -8.8% in 2022 compared to 2021, and a capacity increase of 0.5%,
North America region: the carriers show a variation in demand of -5.1% in 2022 compared to 2021, and a capacity increase of 4.2%,
Europe region: carriers show a variation in demand of -11.5% in 2022 compared to 2021, and a capacity increase of 0.5%,
Middle East region: carriers show a variation in demand of -10.7% in 2022 compared to 2021, and a capacity increase of 4.3%,
Africa region: carriers show a variation in demand of -1.4% in 2022 compared to 2021, and a capacity increase of 0.3%,
Latin America region: carriers show a variation in demand of +13.1% in 2022 compared to 2021, and a capacity increase of 27.1%
For 2023 IATA forecasts a decline in freight volumes of around -5.6% compared to 2019.
