The United States remains the top buyer.
Peru’s native chili peppers reached sales of US$ 11.8 million in the first half of 2025, up 4% from the same period last year, according to the Exporters Association (ADEX). Shipments arrived in 32 markets worldwide between January and June.
The United States was the top buyer with US$ 5.7 million, followed by Spain (US$ 2.4 million) and Chile (US$ 1.4 million). Other destinations included Italy, Bolivia, Japan, the UK, Canada, the UAE, and Belgium.
By variety, ají amarillo led exports with US$ 6.7 million, accounting for 57% of the total. It was followed by ají panca (US$ 2.7 million), rocoto (US$ 1.9 million), ají limo (US$ 222,000), ají mirasol (US$ 156,000), and ají charapita (US$ 5,000).
ADEX highlighted the unique colours, aromas, and flavours of these chilies, which are central to Peruvian cuisine. Meanwhile, its Capsicum Committee has asked Senasa to create a working group focused on food safety. The plan aims to reduce export rejections — especially for páprika — and strengthen Peru’s presence in more international markets.
