Growers report higher tangelo shipments, reversing a long decline.
Peru has recorded growth in tangelo Minneola exports in 2025, the first increase after seven years of falling volumes. By mid-August, shipments reached 9,604 tonnes — up nearly 29% from the 7,459 tonnes exported in the same period last year, according to ProCitrus.
Exports of this citrus hybrid had dropped steadily since 2018, when they stood at 23,000 tonnes, falling to just 7,459 in 2024. In earlier years, the crop peaked at more than 30,000 tonnes, with a record 33,000 in 2012.
ProCitrus noted that Peru now has about 500 hectares of tangelo Minneola, mainly in Ica and Lima, but much of the area has shifted to W. Murcott mandarins, which are more profitable. The smaller volumes of tangelo have helped prices improve, though experts warn that oversupply could once again drive values down.
