MSC Group has been operating in South Africa since 1971, opening its first office in 1978. Today MSC Group operates various entities in South Africa (MSC, MS Depot, MSC Logistics, MSC Technical, Shosholoza) and has a network of 6 offices located in Durban, Cape Town, East London, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria.
The new ultra-modern refrigeration facility, located near the port of Durban, was inaugurated on 7 March. The event was attended by MSC CEO Soren Toft, government representatives, industry partners, customers and MSC staff.
Part of MSC's MEDLOG logistics division, the huge cold store is the epitome of infrastructural excellence and has a capacity of 8,000 to 10,000 pallets. The building includes convertible rooms to accommodate chilled and frozen goods, as well as mobile racks to optimise space. The facility represents a paradigm shift in storage and logistics capacity for South Africa.
Strategically located in Durban, the warehouse will be the hub for imports, particularly meat (from Brazil, the USA and Poland) and exports, which mainly include citrus fruit destined for the European, Middle Eastern and Far East/Asian markets.
