Because traces of Coronavirus were detected in some shipments between 20 November and 27 December, China is imposing a temporary ban on dragon fruit imports from Vietnam
According to the media outlet VnExpress, because Chinese customs detected traces of the Coronavirus in some shipments between 20 November and 27 December, China has imposed a ban until 26 January on imports of dragon fruits transiting through the Huu Nghi border gate in Lang Son province. The ban applies to four varieties of dragon fruit shipped from the central province of Binh Thuan and the southern province of Long An.
Huu Nghi is the 2nd largest border gateway for dragon fruit exports to China, accounting for 5% of the total, according to Vo Huy Hoang, chairman of the Binh Thuan Province Dragon Fruit Association.
In recent weeks, China has tightened its security measures related to Covid, causing major congestion at the border gates with nearly 4,000 trucks loaded with Vietnamese products waiting to cross.
In the first 11 months of 2021, China imported Vietnamese agricultural products worth about US$8.4 billion, a change of -17% compared to the same period of the previous year.
