Chile and Bolivia have taken an important step towards the modernization of their commercial exchanges in the agricultural sector with the introduction of the Electronic Phytosanitary Certification (ePhyto) in Paperless format, announced the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG).
This initiative marks a significant advance in the management of phytosanitary health between both nations, simplifying the process of exchanging agricultural products through a digitalized system that promotes speed and security in commercial transactions.
Chile is on track to complete the transition to the paperless format in phytosanitary certification with all member countries of the Plant Health Committee of the Southern Cone, COSAVE. It is expected that a connection will soon be established with Uruguay and Brazil, with whom it is planned to have ePhyto in 2024.
During the year 2023, Chile issued 775 health certificates for Bolivia, highlighting the export of products such as apples, kiwis and radiata pine.
According to SAG, Electronic Phytosanitary Certification, known as ePhyto, is a crucial technological advance in the field of international agriculture. This electronic system allows the generation and exchange of phytosanitary certificates digitally between National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs).
