Almond production could increase by +89%

Estimates of the National Bureau of Dried Fruits reported a strong production for the next campaign.

National Office (Mesa Nacional de Frutos Secos) estimates the production of almonds to 52,972 tons for the 2014-15 campaign. An increase of +89% compared to last year, abnormally low because of the drought, and an increase of +26% compared to the average of the last 5 years.

By regions, the harvest will be contrasted: Castilla-La Mancha region can expect a production 4 times higher than last year (+426.1%). Contrariwise

, a decline is expected in the Murcia region (-59.60%) and Valencia (-19.85%).

The overall increase is due to the absence of severe frost and good climatic conditions that prevailed during the flowering period.
