Chilean orange movement rises in US market as prices ease

Chilean Navel orange imports through the Philadelphia entry area rose from 10.7 million pounds in the week ending July 18 to 16.1 million pounds in the week ending July 31, according to the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service.

The figures rose from 107 to 146 and then 161. USDA expected movement to remain close to the latest level, with trading described as moderate.

Prices were lower. Fifteen-kilogram cartons containing sizes 40–56 were mostly offered at $24–26, while sizes 64–113 were mainly priced at $22–24.

Clementine volumes decline

Chile’s clementine movement followed the opposite pattern, falling from 105 to 83 and then 53. The decline was expected to continue as the season progressed.

Prices remained unchanged at mostly $34–36 for flat cartons containing ten three-pound mesh bags.
